Poor Arty keeps having lots of problems and had to go back to the vets again on Friday as his urine was full of blood

He is on Cystease to help his bladder, antibiotics incase of infection, painkillers and Zylkene to reduce stress. Hopefully we can finally find a long term solution so that this doesn’t keep happening. He was already on a raw diet which is supposed to be very good for FLUTD, he has been put on a prescription diet just to see if that helps. After lots of tests the vets have ruled out any medical reasons for his problems they think it is because of stress. He has been beaten up a few times by a local bullycat. We’re now taking measures to catproof our garden so that they get the freedom of outside but can’t get into conflicts with other cats. Hopefully it will help *fingers crossed*
Urinary Tract problems in male cats can be very very very serious so it is important to get your kitty to a vet as soon as you notice any of the symptoms.
They are:
- difficulty and pain when urinating
- increased frequency of urination
- blood in the urine
- urination outside the litter-box and in inappropriate places
- sometimes complete obstruction to urine outflow (vet treatment must be sought immediately if this is the case)
- Some cats show only behavioural change, loss of litter-box training and/or aggression
FAB Cats do a great information page on causes and treatment, worth a read
