<p>With lots of craft fairs and markets coming up in the lead up to Christmas (sorry, didn&#8217;t want to say the C word but it is only a few months away now) I wanted lots of necklace displays and I&#8217;m on a budget so I thought I&#8217;d make my own. I&#8217;ve used brown paper, the same as in the backgrounds of my photos, but you could use any paper you like. </p>
<p>Below is a tutorial on how to make your own.</p>
<p><span id="more-784"></span></p>
<p>I&#8217;ve made up a template that you can download and print out <a href="http://starpixie.co.uk/stuff/JewelleryDisplay.pdf">here</a>. When you print it, in the scaling option, select &#8216;none&#8217;.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve used really thick cardboard, available from most craft shops, it&#8217;s about 3mm thick. Trace out the outlines onto the board and cut out. With card so thick it&#8217;s easier to use a craft knife than scissors.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977731346/" title="20100910-DSC_2849 by starpixie, on Flickr" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977731346/?referer=');"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4103/4977731346_a8b2586bf2.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="20100910-DSC_2849" /></a></p>
<p>Cut out a piece of paper a inch or so bigger than the main piece of card. Apply a thin coating of PVA glue or similar over the card and stick the paper on, smoothing out any air bubbles.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977120619/" title="20100910-DSC_2850 by starpixie, on Flickr" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977120619/?referer=');"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4146/4977120619_a453e8c4f8.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="20100910-DSC_2850" /></a></p>
<p>Now to tackle the curves. Make cuts into the paper towards the curve. Don&#8217;t cut all the way, leave a gap about the thickness of the card.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977120893/" title="20100910-DSC_2851 by starpixie, on Flickr" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977120893/?referer=');"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4086/4977120893_e8d09d0370.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="20100910-DSC_2851" /></a></p>
<p>Apply some glue to the card around the curve and then, one by one, fold over each of the tabs of paper, smoothing the paper over the card to make a neat edge. Repeat on the other side.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977121163/" title="20100910-DSC_2852 by starpixie, on Flickr" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977121163/?referer=');"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4154/4977121163_7b5aa69c29.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="20100910-DSC_2852" /></a></p>
<p>Fold over the ends as pictured, cutting off any excess paper. Glue down. Apply glue to the card and then smooth the paper over the end of the cardboard as before.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977732370/" title="20100910-DSC_2853 by starpixie, on Flickr" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977732370/?referer=');"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4083/4977732370_f6265deaf6.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="20100910-DSC_2853" /></a></p>
<p>As you did with the end, fold over the extra paper, trimming any excess. Then glue the card and fold over the paper again.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977121657/" title="20100910-DSC_2855 by starpixie, on Flickr" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977121657/?referer=');"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4109/4977121657_26b9af3691.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="20100910-DSC_2855" /></a></p>
<p>Now just glue and fold over the paper at the bottom.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977121843/" title="20100910-DSC_2856 by starpixie, on Flickr" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977121843/?referer=');"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4148/4977121843_7c1a76c2bf.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="20100910-DSC_2856" /></a></p>
<p>Using a scrap piece of paper, glue the <strong>long</strong> end of the triangle to the main part in the centre. If you want the stand to be more sturdy, do the same on the other side. If you only do one side then the stand will be collapsable but not so stable.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977733048/" title="20100910-DSC_2857 by starpixie, on Flickr" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977733048/?referer=');"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4083/4977733048_d67770a00c.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="20100910-DSC_2857" /></a></p>
<p>And there you have it, a display stand! If your necklaces are too long, make a little notch in the back of the triangle at the back to hook the chain into which will hold the main part of the necklace at a better height.<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977122311/" title="20100910-DSC_2858-Edit by starpixie, on Flickr" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.flickr.com/photos/starpoi/4977122311/?referer=');"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4110/4977122311_21cb82619e.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt="20100910-DSC_2858-Edit" /></a></p>
